Urgent Antenuptial Contract: Wedding in Days?

Urgent Antenuptial Contract: Wedding in Days?

If your wedding is days away and you have just realised you need an antenuptial contract, breathe. We handle urgent and last-minute contracts regularly. The contract must be signed before the wedding, but registration at the Deeds Office can follow within three months.

What is and isn’t possible at short notice

  • Drafting — same day or next working day, depending on when you apply.
  • Signing — can usually be arranged within 24–48 hours of approval, in person at our Pretoria offices or via power of attorney.
  • Wedding-day signings — possible if there is no other option. The contract simply has to be signed before the marriage ceremony.
  • Registration at the Deeds Office — happens after the wedding, within three months of signing. The contract is legally valid between you the moment it is signed.
One thing we cannot fix: a contract signed after the wedding ceremony. Once you say “I do”, the only path to changing your matrimonial regime is a section 21 High Court application, which takes months and costs significantly more than the antenuptial contract itself.

Fast-track process

  1. Apply now. Use the intake form and put “URGENT — wedding on [date]” in the notes field.
  2. We confirm by phone within working hours. We will call to verify your wedding date and confirm what we need.
  3. Drafting today. The contract is drafted and emailed for review.
  4. Signing — in person at our offices, or by power of attorney where attendance is impossible.
  5. Registration follows. Once signed, you can proceed with the wedding. We lodge the contract at the Deeds Office within the three-month statutory window.

Same fee as a non-urgent contract

R1,950 all-inclusive. No urgency surcharge. Drafting, notary attendance, and Deeds Office registration are all covered, regardless of timing.

Wedding overseas?

If you are getting married outside South Africa but the marriage will be recognised in South African law, the antenuptial contract still applies. Sign by power of attorney before a local notary or at a South African embassy; we register the contract here.
